I'm an absolute beginner with fly fhishing! I'm still learning how to cast, having attended one cast-training class back in October (2022) before the weather started getting cold.

I grew up fishing trout streams in the San Bernadino mountains of Southern California, but that was with spinning gear (lightweight rigs with spoons, spinners, and live bait). After decades of putting it off thinking it was "just too complicated," I decided in October of 2022 to take the plunge and try to learn fly fishing.

I'm hoping to make it out to some of the events this month (March, 2023). I'd like to talk to some veteran fly fishers and get ideas about necessary gear, and any advice on casting techiniques will be greatly appreciated!
